Working with an OQM simulation model...

Discussions relating to the open source Java application OQM (Open Queuing Model).

Load A Model:

The easiest and fastest way to learn OQM 5.0 is to just load an example model. To load an example simulation, on the menu bar click File-> Open Simulation. Alternatively, you can click the Open Simulation button in the control bar.

There are a number of example models available to you in the Example folder the OQM 5.0 installation folder.

The File Chooser:

Use the File Chooser dialog box to navigate to the OQM 4.0 folder (the one you un-zipped from the file you downloaded), open it and then open the Examples folder. Select (just select it so the folder is highlight, don’t double-click it to enter the folder) the OSM.csv file and click the Open button.

The Loaded Network:

The input model file will be loaded into the OQM 4.0 so it can be used for simulations. After the input models have been loaded into OQM a simulation can be run. You will see a graphical rendering of the network the simulations input model defines in the Output Model View.

Run Simulation:

Running the simulation multiplies the transition probabilities matrix by itself iteratively until it reaches a defined iteration limit, or finds the steady state of the system. To run the simulation, click on the Run Simulation button in the Controls Panel.

The Network View:

When a simulation is run, the network nodes will flash to blue and the steady states of each node will be displayed to the north of the node. The steady state matrix is displayed is the spreadsheet below the Network rendering.

Simulation Results:

When the simulation is run the OQM application takes the system loaded as an input model and raises it to a certain power of itself. The value that the input model needs to be raised to depends on how long it takes for the system to converge to the steady-state matrix. In the example, the input model matrix was raised to the power of 6.

Modify Simulation Properties:

You can change the simulation properties that will be used to generate the output from the input models with the Simulation Properties View.

Here you can change the number of iterations, the convergence error and a number of other properties.

To change the Simulations Properties, click the Properties button located in the menu.
